Anavatos

Anavatos is a deserted village located 19km west of Chios Town. Built on top of a hill, it is believed Anavatos was founded for military purposes, and to protect west coast of Chios.

The catastrophic earthquake of 1881 decimated the village and it was deserted, today it is a national monument for the island.

The old village preserves its Medieval frame with the fortress, the Church of Taxiarhis, the old school and the Church of Virgin Mary.

Emporio

Is a small bay on the southeast coast of Chios with a black sand beach which is considered one of the best beaches on the island. Emporios was once a major trading port in the classical world.

Located in the same area was the settlement of Lefkonio (3.000 BC), of which traces were found during recent excavations and are now being exhibited in the Archaeological Museum of Chios
