Sarlat Market - Markets in Sarlat the Dordogne
Sarlat Market dates back to Medieval times and is famous throughout the region. It is considered one of the most beautiful and authentic markets in France, held twice a week in the heart of the remarkably preserved medieval old town, surrounded by golden limestone buildings, narrow lanes and historic squares.
Wednesday mornings are dedicated to food, with local producers setting up their stalls in and around Place de la Liberté. On Saturday the food producers return to the same area from morning until around 1 pm, while general traders offering clothing, crafts, flowers, household goods and more line rue de la République for the entire day.
The Dordogne and Sarlat are famous for duck, goose and walnuts, all of which can be found at the market along with gourmet delights from nearby regions such as Rocamadour goats cheese and Bergerac wines. A visit offers an authentic taste of Périgord gastronomy and the lively atmosphere of a true French market.
