Old Town (Parte Vieja) & Pintxos is the beating heart of San Sebastián — a compact maze of narrow medieval streets packed with historic buildings, the baroque Basilica of Santa María del Coro, the Gothic San Vicente church, and over 200 bars and restaurants. This is the world capital of pintxos (Basque tapas), small culinary masterpieces served on slices of bread or in small dishes, displayed on bar counters. Tip: Ride the funicular late afternoon to catch sunset from the top — one of the most romantic views in Spain. The Comb of the Wind is most impressive when the sea is rough (check tide and weather). Kursaal Congress Centre is a striking contemporary glass building designed by Rafael Moneo (1999) that sits dramatically at the mouth of the Urumea River on Zurriola Beach. Zurriola Beach & Surf is San Sebastián’s urban surf beach, located right next to the Kursaal and separated from the calmer La Concha by the mouth of the Urumea River. It has stronger waves, a younger crowd, and a more relaxed, bohemian atmosphere. It is one of the most consistent surf spots in the city and hosts surf schools, competitions, and a lively beach bar scene in summer. The beach is backed by Gros neighborhood’s trendy bars and street art.
